Characteristics of Good Positioning

To talk about positioning, it’s necessary to have a clinical understanding that will allow us to support the reason for each recommendation. If you’re not a health professional, do not worry, this article is designed so that you can understand each term in the simplest way.

Good positioning applies to anyone in any health condition. Science supports that human beings have evolved over time and it is vitally important to practice the following concepts:

  1. Sitting, which is the position in which the human being maintains verticality through the support of his pelvis on the basis of total or partial support, in simple words, is the ability that people have to remain seated.

  2. Standing, which is the ability to stay fully upright on the lower limbs.

It’s important to note that the basis of a good positioning begins in the pelvis, as shown in the following image in the case of sitting. The correct position should be "neutral", ensuring that the spine maintains a healthy alignment.

And in the case of standing, the correct position must also be "Neutral", as shown in the following image:

The pelvis functions as the foundation for the rest of the body's posture. We know that there are various pathologies and diagnoses that can compromise good posture and good positioning. The truth is that the more aware we are of maintaining good posture, the more likely we are to avoid injuries that may worsen in the future. There are health professionals such as orthopedists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, among others, who are empowered to manage clinical assessments in each patient, and thus always ensure the best equipment and/or technical assistance required to correct postures and take them as far as possible to a "neutral" pelvis, promoting a healthy integration into productive society.
