Improving the Lives of Puerto Rican Children with the MOVE Program

November 19, 2021 by Jorge Ramos.

SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO - "MOVE's objective is to discover each child's dream and believe in it until it becomes reality."

MOVE is an educational program based on activities in homes, schools and the community. It combines current skills with a program of activities based on the user's interest and seeking to improve mobility skills in sitting, standing and transitions, seeking to improve health, independence, dignity, and inclusion.

Fulfilling this vision of Linda Bidabe, founder of MOVE, Loh Medical, a Clarks Summit-based company that specializes in exporting complex rehabilitation equipment, its distributor in Puerto Rico, Camera Mundi, and the University of Puerto Rico, joined forces to be able to discover and fulfill the dreams of Puerto Rican children with different disabilities by bringing the MOVE program to Puerto Rico for the first time.

The MOVE program is backed by scientific evidence and includes a method in which information is collected that evaluates the therapeutic progress of each child with a disability. The program provides a guide for professionals in occupational therapy, physical therapy, and special education to teach students the gross motor skills of sitting, standing, walking, and transitioning. The program focuses on family goals, but is tailored to be an individualized education program.

The MOVE program was virtually due to COVID-19 restrictions, but participants received the educational material as well as a certificate for continuing education credits from the University of Puerto Rico for the two days of training.

On this occasion, the staff of the Puerto Rico Department of Education attended this two-day intensive training that included a theoretical and practical part.
